Kim Miller Kirsty Hale Kim, a junior forward, and Kirsty, a senior forward, led the Cox High field hockey team to a 2-1 semifinal win over McLean High and a 3-0 defeat of Bayside High in the final of the state AAA championships to give the Falcons their sixth straight title and ninth overall. Cox High is now tied with Stowe (Vt.) High for the most state field hockey crowns. Kim and Kirsty rank as Virginia's top two career goal scorers, with 97 and 88, respectively. Kim, who had 50 goals in 1994, had three goals and two assists in the semis and final. Kirsty, who had an assist in the semis, ran up 42 goals and 17 assists in '94. Over the last three seasons Cox has gone 63-1.

Terry Pettit Katherine Pettit Terry, the women's volleyball coach at Nebraska, and Katherine, his daughter and an all-state junior setter at East High, each led a team that was undefeated and top-ranked during the regular season. Terry guided the Cornhuskers to a 31-0 mark overall before Nebraska lost to Penn State in the NCAA regional finals, 12-15, 15-11, 15-9, 15-8. He was named national Coach of the Year for the second time. Katherine's Spartans, 38-0 heading into the Nebraska finals, held the No. 1 Class A state ranking and were first in the national Mizuno Top 25 poll before falling to No. 2-ranked Bellevue West High 16-14, 15-9.
