Anita Maxwell
DALLAS
Maxwell, a 5'11" senior forward for New Mexico State 's women's basketball team, became the first NCAA player to have at least 2,500 points, 1,000 rebounds and 300 steals when she made a free throw in a win over UNLV . She ended her career as the Big West Conference 's top scorer, with 2,601 points.

Bill Holowaty
WILLIMANTIC , CONN.
Holowaty, baseball coach at Eastern Connecticut State , won his 800th career game with a 9-2 defeat of Nebraska Wesleyan. His 809 wins through last Friday was the third-highest total among active Division III coaches. Holowaty, 51, has led the Warriors to two national championships.

Karah Smith
GAINESVILLE , FLA.
Karah, a senior striker on the Eastside High girls' soccer team, was named North-Central Florida's player of the year for the second straight season. As a junior, Karah set the regional record for single-season goals (59). She also holds the regional record for career goals, with 132.

John Hughes

John and Russ, identical twin senior wrestlers for Penn State , finished the season ranked among the top three in the country for their respective weight classes. John is No. 2 in the 142-pound category, and Russ is third at 150 pounds. John, the 1995 national champion at 142, lost his crown to Bill Zadick of Iowa in the NCAA finals. Russ, who won his first Big Ten title earlier this year, was defeated in the NCAA quarterfinals by Bill Lacure of Michigan . At Benton High School they were the only pair of brothers ever to place four times apiece at the state championships. John won four Pennsylvania titles, and Russ had two.
