Ten and zero. 11-0. 9-0-1. Three times in the last four seasons the Buckeyes strutted unbeaten into this Big Ten closer against their archrival (including last year, below)—and three times they lost. With a Rose Bowl berth at stake, can 10-1 Ohio State be the spoiler this time against the top-ranked, 10-0 Wolverines? And do Ohio State linebacker Andy Katzenmoyer and Michigan cornerback Charles Woodson (page 64) have any Heisman shot? If you believe a player must line up on offense to be eligible, remember that Woodson also plays wide receiver and tossed a completed pass against Wisconsin, while Katzenmoyer ran one play at fullback earlier this autumn.

Florida State at Florida
Looking for omens? They augur well for the 10-0 Seminoles. Steve Spurrier, coach of the 8-2 Gators, is 46-2 in his career at the Swamp, but both losses have come to coaches named Bowden. (Psst! Steve: Do not schedule Tulane.) The last time a Bobby Bowden-coached Florida State team won in Gainesville, 33-21 in 1993, it was sparked by a freshman tailback from Baton Rouge Catholic High named Warrick Dunn. This year's starting tailback, Travis Minor, is also a freshman from Baton Rouge Catholic. The Gator haters from Tallahassee further recall that in '93 the Seminoles advanced to the Orange Bowl and beat Nebraska 18-16 for the national title. Hmm....

Cowboys at Packers
Whose stock is rising, and whose is falling? Last week publicly owned Green Bay announced a plan to issue new shares in the team for the first time since 1950. A few days before, The Dallas Morning News compiled a list of 31 possible candidates to replace embattled Cowboys coach Barry Switzer. Dallas (6-5), making only its second visit to Lambeau Field since the Ice Bowl in '67, has played five NFC road games this season and lost them all. One reason (and one that doesn't bode well against the rugged defense of the 8-3 Packers): Dallas running back Emmitt Smith (right) scored no touchdowns in those games and has only two all season.

Welcome back, Keenan? On their first joint return to New York, new Vancouver coach Mike Keenan and his captain, Mark Messier, could find Madison Square Garden as warm and cozy as United Nations inspectors find Baghdad. In 1994 Keenan was the coach and Messier the captain of the Rangers who ended the Big Apple's 44-year Stanley Cup drought (with a 4-3 series victory over...the Canucks). But soon after the celebration, Keenan warbled, "If I can make it there/I'll make it anywhere, " and departed for St. Louis, where he was fired last year. Last summer Messier, too, forsook Manhattan. Now the twosome are trying to resuscitate the Canucks, who at week's end were off to the fourth-worst start (5-13-3) in their history.

Match the following names with the reasons they will not appear at the Great Alaska Shootout: 1) Tar Heels coach Dean Smith, 2) Bruins stars Kris Johnson and Jelani McCoy, and A) reportedly tested positive for marijuana, B) retirement. Worth watching in Anchorage will be North Carolina junior forward Antawn Jamison (above), who is blossoming into the ACC's top player.
