By replacing a Rockies
legend, Todd Helton
is boldly going where no man has gone before—mainly because there had never been a Rockies
legend to replace until first baseman Andres Galarraga
went to Atlanta
this off-season. Helton
, 24 years old and rookie green, must step into the Big Cat's shoes. It's a good bet that he will hit, but in order to win the full acceptance of his teammates, Helton
has to emulate Galarraga's remarkable defensive play as well. If Helton
makes more than 16 errors, he'll lose the confidence of his pitchers. But if he handles his bat and his glove, the Rockies may have another legend in the making.
