Track and Field
Reid, a junior at Texas, won the women's 400 meters at the NCAA indoor championships in 52.57 seconds, the fastest time by a collegiate woman this season. Her victory helped propel the Lady Longhorns to the team title, their fourth since 1986.

Matt Hamill, Loveland, Ohio
Wrestling
Hamill, a junior electrical engineering major at Rochester (N.Y.) Institute of Technology who has been deaf since birth, won a Division III title for the second consecutive year—this time at 190 pounds—and was named the tournament's outstanding performer.

Mellory Giberson, Bingham, Maine
Gymnastics
Mellory, a sophomore at Kennebec Valley High, which has no gymnastics program, won the individual girls' all-around competition at the Maine Principal's High School Championships. She turned in a state-record performance, scoring 36.875 out of a possible 40 points.

Joey Mackie, Mesquite, Texas
Taekwondo
Mackie, 42, a transportation broker at a trucking firm, was the heavyweight titlist in the over-40 division at the first Golden Senior National Championships. He bulled his way through his 16-man weight division, winning his four matches by a combined score of 15-2.

Mary Ahlin, Minneapolis
Diving
Ahlin, a freshman at St. Cloud ( Minn.) State, won the one-and three-meter championships at the Division II meet. She was named both a divisional All-America and diver of the year in the North Central Conference, where she also set the women's record, with 517.25 points, off the three-meter board.

Jimmy Stemple, Clarksburg, W.Va.
Basketball
Stemple, a junior point guard at Bluefield (W.Va.) College, led the NAIA Division II in assists with 11.2 per game. A math major with a 3.6 average, he also set a division record for assists in a game by dishing out 24 against Covenant College of Lookout Mountain, Ga.
