David Schummy, Brisbane, Australia
Boomerang
Schummy, 31, a picture framer, set a world long-distance record with a throw of 174 meters at the world championships in Edwardsville, Ill., defeating Manuel Schuetz of Switzerland by two meters. Schummy once held the world mark for maximum time aloft, 36.33 seconds.

John Lepak, La Habra Heights, Calif.
Golf
Lepak, 18, paired the fourth hole of sudden death to beat Kris Mikkelsen of Woodstock, Ga., and Brady Stockton of San Ramon, Calif., and win the boys' division at the AJGA Tournament of Champions. The three were tied at five-under-par 283 after the regulation 72 holes.

Ysanne Williams, Albany, N.Y.
Track and Field
Ysanne, 17, a senior at Albany High, won the 800 meters at the Class A state outdoor meet for the third straight year. A member of the 1997 U.S. junior Pan-American Games team, she also won state schoolgirl titles in the 400 outdoor and the 600 indoor. She will compete at UCLA.

Aaron Olson, Fergus Falls, Minn.
Baseball
Olson, 18, a second baseman for American Legion Post No. 30, hit safely in 19 consecutive at bats over a five-game stretch, with eight home runs, five doubles, a triple, two walks and 25 RBIs in that span. He finished the season hitting .553, with 26 home runs and 92 RBIs.

Yaz Boyum, Washington, D.C.
Bodybuilding
Boyum, 28, a personal trainer and the top-ranked lightweight woman in the U.S., won her division at the National Physique Committee's USA Bodybuilding and Fitness Championships. Once nationally ranked in aerobics, she entered her first bodybuilding competition in 1995.

Tom Denison, Beamsville, Ont.
Football
Denison, 19, threw for 836 yards, a Great Lakes summer league record, and eight touchdowns to lead the Niagara Colts to a 66-51 victory over the Brantford Bison. He also ran for a touchdown. He will play in the fall for Graceland College in Lamoni, Iowa.
