The Surfer
An 0-3 September dropped Notre Dame from national title contention faster than you can say, "Kimberly Dunbar." Since then the mood has turned from blue to gold as the Irish have won three straight. On Oct. 30 they host Navy in what will be their 35th consecutive nationally televised game ( NBC, 1:30 p.m.). While awaiting the kickoff you can follow the Fighting Irish on these sites:

The unofficial home of Notre Dame football contains updated statistics, rosters and recruiting information. Domer moaners can peruse the Rumor Mill section to glean whether coach Bob Davie (above) should be concerned about his job security.

Pat Haden, analyst for NBC's coverage of Irish home games, dispenses wisdom weekly. The site's Notre Dame Central Bulletin Board is more than idle blather. A correspondent, who goes by the netonym Yeats and appears to have a sibling who's a student manager, recently provided embarrassing—if decidedly secondhand—information on Davie's closed locker room reaction to the Irish's frustrating 28-23 loss to Purdue in the season's third week.

Besides a "Dome Cam" constantly trained on the Golden Dome and a song page that gives lyrics to The Notre Dame Victory March, the site provides phone numbers and addresses for all Notre Dame students. Want to call quarterback Jarious Jackson and congratulate him on Notre Dame's 21-point comeback against USC last Saturday? Just dial 219-273-...sorry, you'll have to click on the site for the last four digits.

As the prospect of a season without a major bowl has fans in an Irish stew, this site serves up a volume telling how to prepare one. The All-American Cookbook, compiled by Karen Phelps Moyer (daughter of former Irish basketball coach Digger Phelps), contains recipes culled from the kitchens of Irish sports legends. We recommend Paul Hornung's eggs Benedict. Great for hangovers.

This nonfootball-related site is devoted to teaching visitors how to get the most out of their day. It's ideal for offenses whose last-minute, potential game-winning drives have a propensity for getting stuck at the opponent's 11-yard line as the clock expires.

Irish haters have a field day at this site, which runs such QuickTime clips as Desmond Howard's diving, last-quarter touchdown catch that beat the Irish in 1991, and Boston College's game-winning field goal in '93.
