Effie Brunell, McNEIL, ARK.
Basketball
Effie, a senior forward at McNeil High, set a girls' school record by scoring 50 points in a game, against Prescott High, which the Lady Eagles won 100-41. She also had eight steals and six assists and set a girls' single-game state record for rebounds with 33.

Scott Norton, FULLERTON , CALIF.
Bowling
Norton, 18, became the youngest person to win the U.S. Amateur Bowling Championships, rallying to beat Shawn Evans, 22, of Satellite Beach, Fla. Norton, the 1999 national junior amateur champ, became the first bowler to win both the junior and the senior amateur crowns.

Carl Harnish, PARKERSBURG , W.VA.
Volleyball
Harnish, 56, coach of the girls' team at Parkersburg High for the last 19 years, guided the Big Reds to the state title for the third consecutive year and to a state record for match wins in a season, with 61. His team has won the championship in eight of the last 10 seasons.

Pete Friedl, ORLAND PARK , ILL.
Wrestling
Pete, a 171-pound senior at Sandburg High, led the Eagles to the team title at the Rex Whitlatch Invitational by pinning three of his four opponents. Through Sunday he was undefeated this season after 25 matches, 14 of which ended in a pin.

Stephanie Millar, HUDSON, WIS.
Hockey
Millar, a freshman left wing at Wisconsin , was named Western Collegiate Hockey Association woman rookie of the week after getting three goals and an assist in a sweep of a two-game series with Boston College . In the second game she scored the Badgers' fourth and fifth goals in a 5-3 victory.

Stacey Ann Livingston, BROOKLYN
Track and Field
Stacey, a junior middle-distance runner at Boys and Girls High, established a state girls' mark in the 600 meters with a time of 1:30.98, the second fastest ever indoors by a high school girl. Through Sunday she was undefeated in six races this year at distances of 400,600,800 and 1,000 meters.
