Volleyball
Tomlinson, a sophomore middle blocker at Wisconsin-Green Bay, broke an NCAA women's record for service aces in a three-game match by firing 15 in a 30-12, 30-23, 30-17 defeat of Chicago State. She also had 13 kills and 10 digs, giving her the third triple double in Phoenix women's history.

Heather Broyles, KNOXVILLE, TENN.
Softball
Heather, 13, pitched four shutouts in leading the Knoxville Thunder to the Division A 12-and-under Super World Series championship. In the title match, Heather, who gave up only two hits in the six-game series, threw a perfect game against the Benecia ( Calif.) Blue Steal to beat it 2-0.

Fred Silva, S�O PAULO
Soccer
Silva, a senior midfielder at Virginia Tech, set a Hokies' single-game record of nine points when he had two goals and five assists in an 8-0 defeat of Elon. By scoring once and adding an assist in Tech's next game, against Virginia Military Institute, he was involved in nine of 11 Hokies goals.

Anne Fitzgerald, SYRACUSE, N.Y.
Diving
Fitzgerald, 50, a registered nurse, broke 50-54 age-group women's national records at the U.S. championships in the one-meter and three-meter springboard with scores of 346.6 and 353.60, respectively. She also set the women's 50-65 age-group record (262.5) in the Grand Masters III event.

Demetria Washington, FAYETTEVILLE, N.C.
Track and Field
Washington, 21, finished first in the women's 400 meters and anchored the gold-medal-winning 4 x 400 relay team at the World University Games. A senior at South Carolina, she's the NCAA 400 indoor champion and helped set the collegiate record in the 4 x 400 indoor relay.

Samuel Deutsch, BETTENDORF, IOWA
Rowing
Samuel, 17, coxed the Boston Rowing Club's junior eight-oared and four-oared boats to their respective titles at the U.S. championships and the Royal Canadian Henley. He also steered various shells from the Occoquan ( Virginia) Boat Club to five victories at the masters nationals.
