Rhi Jeffrey, DELRAY BEACH, FLA.
Swimming
Rhi, an Atlantic High junior, broke the oldest standing national high school swim record when she swam 1:45.49 in the 200-yard freestyle at the state 2A championships. The old mark had stood since 1982. Rhi is undefeated in three trips to the state finals.

Alex Maslow, CHARLOTTE
Soccer
Maslow, a Furman sophomore goaltender, led a defense that set an NCAA record with 11 straight shutouts. The Paladins dedicated their season to Gray Griffin, a freshman starting sweeper, who died in a car accident on Oct. 11.

Helen Klein, RANCHO CORDOVA, CALIF.
Marathon
Klein, 80, ran the California International Marathon in 4:31.32, setting a world record by almost 40 minutes for the 80-plus age group. The former ER nurse has run 59 marathons and 136 ultra-marathons; she completed her first marathon at age 57.

Erin Deffenbaugh, STRASBURG, COLO.
Volleyball
Deffenbaugh, a University of Northern Colorado junior outside hitter, led Division II with a 6.11 kills-per-game average and set 10 school records, including those for kills in a match, season and career. She was named Division II's player of the year.

Tracy Truckey, GREEN BAY
Hockey
Truckey, a Wisconsin- Stevens Point freshman, scored a hat trick, including the tying goal with seven seconds left in regulation and the game-winning goal in overtime, versus St. Olaf. She leads Division III freshmen in scoring with 13 goals and 11 assists.

John Herrington, FARMINGTON HILLS, MICH.
Football
Herrington, 62, coach of Farmington Hills Harrison High, won his 300th game and was named 2002's national coach of the year by the National Federation Coaches Association. Herrington has won 12 state titles, and his career record is 307-61-1.

Leigh Sulkowski, UPPER SAINT CLAIR, P.A.
Basketball
Sulkowski, a Washington & Jefferson College freshman guard, scored 34 points on 15-of-22 shooting to be named MVP of the Bethany Classic; it was her second tournament MVP this season. She is shooting 61% and averaging 23.3 points per game.
