Otto Barringer, of Everett, Wash., landed a 111-pound, five-foot nine-inch sturgeon in the Snohomish River near his home. Barringer's neighbors were surprised at his rare catch, but Barringer wasn't; he had gotten just what he had been fishing for.

Elizabeth McCleary, 15, a sophomore at Baltimore's Roland Park Country School, established a new national junior swimming record in the 200-yard individual medley, finishing the event in 2:24.1, more than two seconds under the old mark.

Kay Wilson, 17, scored 104 points for her Taylorsville (N.C.) High School basketball team despite new girls' rules that allow closer guarding and blocking shots, prohibit staying in the lane more than three seconds, all changes that hamper the offensive player.

Cliff Wells, 67, basketball coach at Tulane since 1945 and the coach of 1,303 games in a 47-year career—during which he compiled a record of 885 wins, 418 defeats—has resigned to head basketball's new Naismith Memorial Hall of Fame in Springfield, Mass.

Bob Seidelmann, a 26-year-old sailmaker from the Little Egg Harbor Yacht Club, Beach Haven, N.J., won the Lightning Class Winter Sailing Championship at St. Petersburg, Fla. He fought both the strong opposition and a stormy Tampa Bay to take the title.

Bernard Wolfe of Hillsborough, Calif. and his partner, William Wright, won 17 of 22 games in 13 hours of near-constant play to take the world dominoes championship in San Francisco. "I'll never look at another domino," said Wolfe.
