Lonnie Rubis, 22, an undefeated University of Minnesota wrestler, won 19 straight matches in spite of being so nearsighted that he can't see his opponent's face. "I watch his stomach," says Rubis, a 5-foot-8 senior. "He can't fool me with any false motions there."

Joe Nappi, 21, a Pasadena ( Calif. )City Junior College gymnast whose form is excellent in spite of an arm and shoulder that are underdeveloped because of a childhood polio attack, won the All-Around title in the National Junior Gymnastics championships in Dallas .

Joya Utermohlen, 16, blue-eyed, blonde figure skater from New York City , won the coveted international cup competition for seniors in M�g�ve, France , beating some of the world's best skaters. She is the prot�g�e of Pierre Brunei, who also coached Carol Heiss .

Willie Mangham, 17, a senior at New York 's Benjamin Franklin High School, broke the 33-year-old city public school high jump mark with a leap of 6 feet 5� inches. Willie, also a basketball player, was making his first jump since the outdoor season ended last June.

William Huey, a New Mexico wildlife biologist, received an International Waterfowl Association award for helping the vanishing New Mexican duck. He trapped the rare species, got the birds to nest in his backyard, and then later released them in a suitable habitat.

Frithjof Prydz of Norway , a freshman at the University of Utah , won the North American ski jumping championship at Iron Mountain , Mich. Nicknamed "Wild One," he is also an excellent tennis player, and will very likely compete for Utah on its varsity team.
