NO. 3 IS NO. 1
Two of the top five teams in the nation met in the Texas girls' 5A basketball final on Saturday, and third-ranked Rockwall broke through for its first championship, with a 59--54 overtime win against fifth-ranked Cypress-Fairbanks ( Houston ). The SMU-bound Haley Day (above) was the game MVP, scoring 15 points, including five of her team's 11 in the extra period. Rockwall, which lost in the state finals last year, finished the season 40--0.

STOPPED COLD
Stone Bridge (Ashburn) had been undefeated and averaging 7.5 goals per game, but in the Northern Virginia Scholastic Hockey League final the Bulldogs were shut down by goaltender Dylan Barber of Osbourn Park ( Manassas ). The senior had 57 saves in a 3--1 win for the championship.

NO BOYNTON ? NO PROBLEM
Even though standout shooting guard Kenny Boynton (left) couldn't be there at the end—he fouled out with less than a minute remaining in the fourth quarter—Blanche Ely ( Pompano Beach ) rallied to win the Florida 6A boys' state championship with an 80--77 overtime victory over Dr. Phillips ( Orlando ). The biggest basket: a three-pointer from junior guard Derrian Johnson with 9.1 seconds left in regulation to tie the game at 71. Boynton , a sophomore, had a team-high 28 points.

THE EDWARDIAN ERA
Talk about dominant: St. Edward (Lakewood) , the top-ranked program in the country, qualified wrestlers for the Ohio championships in all 14 weight classes and won its 11th consecutive state title with a tournament-record 229 points. Thirteen Eagles wrestlers placed, and four won individual championships, including senior Sean Nemec (160 pounds), who took his third career title and is headed to Ohio State .
