Everybody doing a preseason forecast seems to have the same script on San Diego : All the pieces are in place except one—the coach. Norv Turner carries the reputation of an underachiever into what could be the team's Super Bowl season. I'm not buying. Turner might be a bit low-key for some, but I think this is a team on a mission after last year's playoffs. On Sunday the Chargers will put heat on Rex Grossman and score plenty against a Bears defense that isn't there yet. San Diego wins big.

Houston 's a surprise favorite over K.C., but we're looking at two clubs going in different directions. Texans on the upswing to take it.... I've found an upset and the victim is Denver , which lost its road opener in each of the last three seasons. Buffalo is the chart pick.... The Patriots have beaten the Jets six straight in New York . This will be number seven.... Indy will have too much firepower for New Orleans in the Thursday-nighter, Cowboys to beat the Giants in the Sunday-nighter (but it'll be a lot closer than people think), and in the Monday-nighters I'll go with the home clubs, Bengals and 49ers .
