The colleges that fared best, as ranked by SI

1 ALABAMA , 32 signees
Just as he did at LSU, coach Nick Saban dominated in-state recruiting, landing 14 of Alabama 's top 20 prospects. His best catches: WR Julio Jones (Foley) and ATH Burton Scott (Vigor High in Prichard).

2 NOTRE DAME, 23 signees

3 MIAMI , 33 signees
Coach Randy Shannon hauled in the nation's best crop of LBs. He also signed 10 of the top 12 players in Miami-Dade , including DT Marcus Forston (Northwestern) and CB Brandon Harris ( Washington ).

4 FLORIDA , 22 signees
Coach Urban Meyer 's third-straight top five class is heavy on defense, most notably the safety tandem of Will Hill (right) from St. Peter's Prep ( Jersey City ) and Dee Finley (Auburn, Ala. ).

5 CLEMSON, 26 signees
The Tigers secured an early pledge from the highly coveted DE DaQuan Bowers (Bamberg-Ehrhardt in S.C. ) then got a signing-day bonus in explosive Trinity Christian ( Jacksonville ) RB Jamie Harper.
