SI PICK OF THE WEEK
SATURDAY 5/13

Working-Class Heroes

Not that old story again: A team's title hopes ride on the manager of a paper-shredding company and a former supermarket bakery clerk. The Buffalo Bandits advanced to the National Lacrosse League championship game thanks to goaltender Steve Dietrich (left), who led the NLL in goals-against average when not running a local Shred-It, and John Tavares (right), who gave up his $15-an-hour day job shortly before breaking the NLL career scoring mark. The man he passed, Gary Gait, now coaches the Colorado Mammoth, the Bandits' opponent in today's Champion's Cup. ESPN2 6 p.m.

MONDAY 5/15

White Sox at Twins
Things could be worse for Minnesota : This could be a night game. Today's scheduled Sox starter, Jose Contreras , has given up just one run in 15 1/3 evening innings. He's not much easier to hit in the daytime. The righty, who hasn't lost since last August, is 3-0 with a 1.84 ERA in four matinee starts this year. Check listings 1 p.m.

TUESDAY 5/16

Real Sports with Bryant Gumbel
Presenting an NFL boss and an NFL bust. Outgoing commissioner Paul Tagliabue (who's led the league to unprecedented levels of prosperity in his 17 years on the job) and ex- quarterback Ryan Leaf (who threw 14 TDs and 36 interceptions in four years) are profiled. It's Leaf's first one-on-one interview since he retired in 2002. HBO 10 p.m.
