Who's Next Under Center?

Boos rained on Bears quarterback Jonathan Quinn as he exited Soldier Field through the northwest tunnel on Sunday. In his second start for Chicago since replacing Rex Grossman (season-ending knee injury on Sept. 26), he completed only 10 of 22 passes for 65 yards and had one interception in the loss to the Redskins . Too often Quinn shot- putted the ball with a slow, aiming motion. And afterward Bears coach Lovie Smith was unusually blunt about the performance of the seven-year veteran, who is with his third NFL team. "There were a lot of things we didn't like about the game," Smith said, "and the quarterback position was one of them."

So what else is new? Smith could turn to rookie fifth-round draft pick Craig Krenzel or recent free-agent pickup Chad Hutchinson to start this week's road game against the Bucs . If a change is made, it would mark the sixth time in seven years that Chicago has started three quarterbacks during a regular season, and either Krenzel or Hutchinson would become the 12th starting quarterback in the team's last 100 games. It's no wonder that the Bears have only 40 wins over those seven seasons.
