WHO: Julieta Granada WHAT: Drive into the fairway WHERE: 420-yard par-4 18th hole at Trump International WHEN: Final round of the ADT Championship Most pros and amateurs are searching for a perfect swing, but not many of the young talents on the LPGA tour. They have unorthodox swings and prove that guts and smarts--not perfect mechanics--make stars. Granada has a short backswing and a very fast, aggressive move through impact. She succeeds because she lets it rip without steering the ball. That's how she casually split the 18th fairway despite the huge lake on the right side. All clubs are designed to have the shaft ahead of the clubhead at address. Regardless of swing style, every good player replicates that position at impact. (It's impossible to hit anything but a flop shot with the shaft behind the ball at impact.) To get a feel for the proper shaft position, use a mid-iron to hit half shots while maintaining this relationship between the shaft and clubhead until after impact.
