LOWER DIVISION programs get a fraction of the
attention lavished on the 119 Division I-A teams, but players like Montana
guard Colin Dow, who gave a young fan a big hand after the Grizzlies beat
Montana State in a Division I-AA grudge match, make up the bulk of the college
football population. Nearly 600 teams and more than 50,000 athletes compete in
Divisions I-AA, II and III of the NCAA, or in the NAIA.
