Romero, a senior at Hutchinson High, is the first to win four Kansas titles in both football and wrestling. A fullback, he ran for 2,686 yards and 49 TDs in the last two years, and helped the Salt Hawks win four Class 6A championships. As a wrestler he was 136--11 with titles at 145, 160, 171 and 189 pounds.

Lia, a seventh-grader at Sacred Heart School, set national age-group records (11- and 12-year-olds) in the 100- and 50-meter freestyle. Her 100 time (56.87) broke the previous mark by 1.3 seconds and qualified her for the U.S. Olympic Trials. She also holds three national records for the 9--10 age group.

Kayla, a midfielder at George Jenkins High, scored 48 goals and had 34 assists to lead the 29-0-2 Eagles to their first Class 5A title; she was tournament MVP. She was also all-state three times and a four-year captain of the state's Olympic Development Program team.

RENO > Gymnastics
Curtis, a sophomore at Michigan , had the highest all-around score (39.600) in the Big Ten this season to lead the Wolverines to an upset of three-time national champion and No. 1 Georgia at an event meet. The conference gymnast of the week also won the vault (9.950) and the floor exercise (9.900).

Billy Sepich
DELRAN, N.J. > Swimming and Track and Field
Sepich, a junior at Villanova , is the first athlete to qualify for the Big East championships in both swimming and track during the same season. He was 31st in the 100-yard backstroke in East Meadow , N.Y. , and the next day finished 17th in the 1,000-meter run in Manhattan .

Keith (far left), a senior at Stonehill, won the mile at the New England Championships and was Division II indoor track athlete of the year. His brother, Kevin, a freshman at Stonehill, was All-America in the mile and on the distance medley relay.
