You Don't Say

After years of pushing the Players Championship as golf's fifth major, the Tour's majordomos have zipped their lips. They will no longer utter the term fifth major. Soon we may hear more new Tourminology

SUBJECT: What We Say/Don't Say

Having de-purposed the term fifth major in reference to THE PLAYERS, it is time to roll out Phase 2 of our Action Plan: Re-Naming Un-Tourlike Locutions. Henceforward, all PGA TOUR staff are to follow the following guidelines:

• The PGA Championship should not be referred to as the "fourth major." That would be mean. Instead, call the PGA "a pretty big deal, right up there with the Legends Reno-Tahoe."

• PGA TOUR favorite Phil Mickelson is "husky," not "chunky," "fleshy" or "the new Blob-O."

• Senior players who forget their names are having a "Champions moment."

• The PGA TOUR's MDF cut policy (made the cut, did not finish) was never "controversial," let alone "lame" or "FUBAR." It was "innovative."

• Today's powerful PGA TOUR players may "sledge and wedge," "rip and flip" or even "drive and arrive." They do not "bomb and gouge."
