WHO
Anthony Kim

WHAT
147-yard lay-up from a fairway bunker

WHERE
491-yard par-4 9th hole at Quail Hollow Club

WHEN
Final round of the Wachovia Championship

WHY
The Tour has had its share of one-hit wonders, but I think Kim will be a star for the long haul. He can go overboard with his hyperintense attitude and admits that he has beaten himself up mentally at times, but I love the kid's fire. It shows that he cares, which is a valuable asset on Tour. And now Kim can control himself, as he showed at 9. Instead of trying to clear the lip and go for the green, he laid up, almost holed his ensuing 72-yard pitch shot and tapped in for a par.

MARK'S TIP
Use Runyan's Rule In Fairway Bunkers

Paul Runyan told me, "Never let a fairway bunker shot cost you more than a half shot." If you can't easily hit the green, lay up. To do so, bury your feet an inch or two in the sand and choke down on the grip by the same measure. The rest of the shot (posture, swing, ball position) is the same as usual, but be sure to maintain a stable lower body and contact the ball before the sand, taking a small divot.
