Blackhawks general manager Dale Tallon could be one of the most active GMs in the league, mostly as a seller. Defensemen Jassen Cullimore and Todd Simpson , winger Matthew Barnaby and centers Jim Dowd and Curtis Brown are on the block, as is center Tyler Arnason . The Hawks have grown tired of Arnason's inconsistency and lack of intensity, plus his contract is up after the season, and they hate to think of having to make him a qualifying offer that includes a raise from his present salary of $1.2 million. -- Daily Herald The Panthers could be nearing a breakup with leading scorer Olli Jokinen , and Roberto Luongo 's long-term future here also remains in doubt. Meanwhile, trading Jokinen could hurt the chances of Luongo signing a new contract this summer. Luongo can become a restricted free agent after this season and unrestricted after 2006-07. -- Miami Herald There's talk the Flyers might take a crack at Phoenix Coyotes captain Shane Doan , who is considered one of the NHL 's most talented grit players but comes at a price of $3.192 million. -- Camden Courier-Post Bruins owner Jeremy Jacobs said that would be up to general manager Mike O'Connell to determine Sergei Samsonov 's worth to the team, but he wasn't overly satisfied at the way Samsonov's career has progressed since he was the No. 8 overall pick in the 1997 draft. -- Boston Herald In a move that would prevent the Sharks from losing Vesa Toskala to unrestricted free agency this summer, the team is expected to sign the Finnish goaltender to a contract extension shortly. -- San Jose Mercury News Nikolai Khabibulin , who sprained his left knee Jan. 20, is expected back shortly. When Khabibulin is healthy, the question is, will Craig Anderson or Adam Munro back him up? It's probably going to be Anderson , who appears to have won back the job after losing it and being waived, then re-claimed. The Blackhawks still plan to either sign or trade for a veteran backup this off-season. -- Daily Herald Islander Mark Parrish didn't dispute Mike Modano 's claim that USA Hockey needed "new blood" after a disappointing performance at the Turin Olympics and the frustration of trying to get there. Team USA players had to find their own way to the Games and their families were given little to no assistance in arranging hotels. -- Newsday Lightning goalie John Grahame still isn't sure why he was one and done in the Olympics. As one of three goaltenders for Team USA , Grahame got the call in the opening game of the tournament, he didn't see a minute of ice time in the final five games. -- Tampa Tribune Flyers winger Simon Gagne voiced mixed emotions yesterday on his injured right knee. Although an MRI exam showed that the injury the Canadian star suffered last week at the Olympics was just a bruise, Gagne said he would give the injury as long as it needed to heal. Reports initially indicated that it could be two weeks before Gagne returned. But Flyers coach Ken Hitchcock said yesterday: "It's more like two days, not two weeks. It's just a bruise." -- Philadelphia Inquirer Mike Sillinger has been strong in the faceoff circle and excelled on the penalty kill during his brief tenure with Nashville . But his two points in seven contests are probably less than the Predators had hoped for from a second-line offensive center who's been regularly teamed with Steve Sullivan . Sillinger had scored a goal in seven consecutive games before he was traded from St. Louis , but has collected just one since arriving in Nashville . -- The Tennessean
