There are three key facts to keep in mind when deciding whether the flames really are tickling White Sox manager Ozzie Guillen's bottom: Chairman Jerry Reinsdorf adores him, general manager Ken Williams respects him and Guillen's teams win. -- Chicago Tribune Curt Schilling says he'll go elsewhere next season. The Red Sox, of course, don't believe him. They think he's settled here in Boston and wouldn't want to disrupt his family or his business or his many charitable endeavors. -- Boston Herald Kansas City outfielder Reggie Sanders is no longer a possibility because the Orioles don't think he would happily accept a bench role. Eduardo Perez, more a first baseman than an outfielder, also is out. So is outfielder Marlon Byrd. -- Baltimore Sun Neither baseball Commissioner Bud Selig nor White Sox Chairman Jerry Reinsdorf see Sam Zell's minority stake in the White Sox as an obstacle to Zell's acquisition of controlling interest in Tribune Co., current owner of the Cubs. According to MLB rules, he would have to divest himself of his interest in the Sox if he does not sell the Cubs. -- Chicago Tribune David Aardsma's improvement in the final two weeks of spring training helped him win a spot on the Cubs Opening Day roster. Aardsma credited former teammate Michael Wuertz with helping him develop a second pitch to complement his 95-m.p.h. fastball. -- Chicago Tribune Several teams remain interested in signing free agent Ron Villone, including the Rockies. -- Rocky Mountain News Though the Cards did not discuss the probability of Chris Carpenter landing on the disabled list for a third time in four seasons, a club source said such a move becomes likely if there is no significant improvement in the next three days. -- St. Louis Post-Dispatch Outfielder Larry Bigbie will have a second opportunity to leave the Dodgers organization if he isn't promoted from triple A. According to his agent, Seth Levinson, an escape clause will be triggered in Bigbie's contract June 1 similar to the one he had for three days beginning last Thursday. -- Los Angeles Times Disgruntled and demoted second baseman Jorge Cantu will report to Triple-A Durham in time for Thursday's season opener and will be focused and prepared to play hard, agent Steve Canter said Tuesday. But whether Cantu plays again for the Devil Rays could be another issue. -- St. Petersburg Times Lance Cormier hoped his dream spring wouldn't be spoiled by a sore shoulder, but it appears it will be. The Braves righthander had some lingering discomfort when he long-tossed Tuesday. He's expected to be disabled and Kyle Davies recalled from Class AAA Richmond to start Sunday vs. the Mets, although the Braves probably won't make a final decision until Friday. -- Atlanta Journal-Constitution
